The honest version

Why Zipibu exists

This is the part of the website where we explain ourselves. It's shorter than you'd expect.

The problem we kept running into

Every weekend, a lot of people in Polish cities want to go outside. Not trekking in the Tatry for a week. Just outside. A few hours. Fresh air, some movement, a change of scenery from the apartment and the office.

The information for this kind of trip is scattered, outdated, or buried inside tour operator websites that want to sell you something. The PTTK website is excellent but takes some getting used to. Google Maps doesn't tell you which trails are muddy in April. The local tourism boards list everything without helping you choose anything.

Zipibu is an attempt to write the kind of guides we wanted to find. Specific to the season. Honest about the difficulty. Clear about how to get there without a car. No booking links. No affiliate commissions. No "top 10 things to do" lists that are actually just SEO content with no real information in them.

What we actually do

We go to places near Kraków, Wrocław, Poznań and Warsaw. We take the train when that's possible. We walk the routes, note the conditions, check the trail markings, find out where the nearest bus stop is if things go wrong. Then we write it up.

We focus on day trips and half-days. Routes you can do from a city on a Saturday morning and be back for dinner. We note what the terrain is like, what footwear you need, and whether it's worth it in the specific season we're writing about. A route can be wonderful in June and genuinely unpleasant in March. We try to say that clearly.

The printable guides are designed to work offline, on a phone screen or folded into a jacket pocket. That's intentional. We don't want you to need a data connection to know where you're going.

What we don't do

We don't book anything for you. We don't sell gear. We don't have a partner programme with outdoor brands. We don't take press trips or accept free experiences in exchange for coverage. We don't publish sponsored content. If something isn't worth visiting, we say so or we just don't write about it.

We're not a tour operator, an activity booking platform, or an outdoor brand. Zipibu is an editorial project. The distinction matters to us.

Our editorial principles

  • We visit every place we write about
  • We note the season and conditions clearly
  • We include public transport directions where possible
  • We update guides when conditions change
  • We don't accept sponsored content or payment for coverage
  • We say when something isn't worth the trip
